Our work at Sustainable Calgary grows out of needs identified in our State of our City reports. Inspired by those findings, we collaborate on national progams including the Active Neighbourhoods Canada and the Housing Transportation Food Nexus Fund.

ANNOUNCEMENT!

It’s been two years since a 4th grade class from Connaught School collaborated with Sustainable Calgary on ways to improve their routes to school. Their ideas led to the creation of Connaught Open Street, a pedestrian-only park space in a half block of 10th Street between 12th and 13th Ave in front of Connaught School. Now, after a couple years of conducting testing, receiving feedback, and making adjustments, we are starting to move forward on the next version of the Connaught Open Street project. We can’t wait for you to see what the future has in store!

Re-imagining Public Spaces

About half of urban land in most North American cities is devoted to cars. But mounting evidence suggests there are downsides to prioritizing cars above other uses. This talk revisits assumptions about how we use public space and highlights Sustainable Calgary’s work with communities, that reimagines neighbourhoods for better health outcomes. Check out the full slide deck here.

How We Work

For the past two decades, Sustainable Calgary has been the product of partnerships and relationships. We collaborate with other organizations and convene with community around big questions and ideas. Most of our projects fall into one of our two core programmes – Active Neighbourhoods Canada or Housing Transportation Food Nexus Fund – but we also pursue one-off project opportunities.
